Subjects include; Islamic Studies, Physical Education, Alim program, Qur’an Memorization, Tafseer, Qur’an recitation and Arabic. All courses are designed to meet the purpose of IQA’s mission of developing the next generation of American Muslim Scholars.
Academic programs are guided by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) emphasizing the acquisition of an academic knowledge base with concomitant intellectual skills in preparation for eventual university studies. Students acquire the ability to use and evaluate knowledge with critical and independent thinking and to make connections between academic and religious perspectives. IQA students develop competence and confidence through structured lessons and experience at all grade levels.
The Mathematics program is centered on two goals: the first is to provide a sound foundation in basic mathematical facts and skills through meaningful practice and reinforcement. The second goal is to provide varied, thought-provoking opportunities for students to apply the mastery of those facts and skills in real-world, problem solving situations and in preparation for higher level mathematics. With an emphasis on cultivating mathematical ability, the entire K-10 curriculum is guided by standards established by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics as well as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
The Science program provides the opportunity to build scientific literacy through a hands-on, inquiry-based approach. Students expand their knowledge of scientific methods and concepts, as well as acquire problem-solving and critical thinking skills. A science lab, integrated classroom studies, outdoor education experiences and a state-level science fair add to the richness of the program.
The goal of the Language Arts program is for students to effectively and interactively communicate through language in context of the world in which they live. The elements of phonics, spelling, grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught both as discrete subjects and in conjunction with related skills. The Language Arts program includes exposure to a variety of classical and contemporary literature that is age and religiously appropriate. A complementary writing program emphasizes the understanding and application of writing as an intrinsic means of self-expression and communication.
A primary focus of the Social Studies program is facilitating an understanding and appreciation of the world, near and far. The Social Studies program involves an interdisciplinary approach linking history, economics, civics, the study of modern and ancient cultures and geography with literature, writing, math, science and religion. Relevant field trips at each grade level extend learning beyond the classroom.
Technology plays a significant role in the educational basis and daily lives of our students. We believe thoughtful, engaging lessons, appropriate software and state-of-the-art hardware profoundly affect the way children view and use technology. To that end, we have introduced Chromebooks and Ipads for student use. Currently we have about 60 chromebooks and 20 Ipads.
The curriculum is designed to provide a broad range of activities and challenges including basketball, soccer, flag football, track, volleyball, and softball, in addition to other sports and activities. Instructors teach cooperation with others and sustained individual effort. Student athletes are encouraged to play skillfully and competitively in class and in competition with students from other schools.
